Ngerende Island Lodge is located in the Ol Choro-Oirogua Conservancy, which borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The lodge is situated in a bend of the Mara river, the lodge on almost all sides. The Conservancy Olchoro includes more than 5,000 acres and consists mainly of open savanna, except along the banks of the Mara River, which are forested and an ideal habitat for wildlife. There are over 140 species of birds spotted at the lodge. To lodge are three pools, where every day crocodiles, hippos and elephants show.
Ngerende Island Lodge is situated 1750 meters above sea level, making the evening quite some time to cool. The lodge has its own airstrip (located 2 km from the lodge), where flights are scheduled to Malindi, Mombasa and Nairobi. The flight takes about one hour from Nairobi, Nairobi road is about 4 hours drive.
The Lodge boasts of 7 luxury safari tents, all built on an elevated platform with a panoramic view over the Mara river and the woods across the street. Each tent is very spacious and open plan living and sleeping area, complete with fireplace and a separate bathroom – next to a sink and flush toilet – has both a shower and an outdoor bath. The living room has comfortable beds, desk, seating and plenty of closet space.
The lodge has expert guides and spotters who are all seasoned professionals and have a great eye for finding the animals, birds and reptiles for which the Maasai Mara is justly famous.
